| Born in Coleraine
in 1926, James MacIntyre is a self-taught artist who has been
working professionally as a painter and sculptor since 1946.In
the late forties of the twentieth century he was one of the
group of artists which included Gerard Dillon, George Campbell,
Dan O'Neill and Arthur Armstrong who regularly exhibited in
the 55a Gallery in Donegall Place, Belfast.
Examples of MacIntyre's work are in the collections
of Belfast City Council, the Ulster Museum, RUA, Queen's University,
the University of Ulster, the BBC, Ulster Television, the
Arts Council, Old Bushmills Distillery, the Department of
the Environment, Belfast Harbour Authority, the Trustee Savings
Bank, Coleraine Borough Council and private collections at
home and abroad.
While MacIntyre's distinctive painting style
is well known, his sculptures cast in bronze are also sought
after by collectors.
