Born in Haifa of Armenian parents. Sophie Aghajanian's childhood was mostly spent as a refugee. On moving to England, she studied at Ravensbourne College of Art, London 1962-66 and at Brighton College of Art 1966-7. In 1968 she taught lithography at Croydon College of Art. She is married to prominent printmaker James Allen.

After living at Shoreham, Sussex they came to Belfast in 1977 to set up the Arts Council Print workshop. Sophie Aghajanian has exhibited work at the Curwen Gallery, the RUA, Listowel Graphics and the Tom Caldwell Gallery. Examples of her work are in the Ulster Museum and the Arts Council Collection
