Les Jones studied at the Bradford College of Arts and Crafts 1946 to 1949. He moved to Northern Ireland as Design Manager at Ulster Print Works Ltd 1964. Offered post as Senior Lecturer in Textiles at University of Ulster in 1972 and retired in 1995.

Past president of the Arts Society of Ulster, President of the Ulster Watercolour Society, Associate of the RUA and Council Member, Member of the Watercolour Society of Ireland.

Initially Les Jones paintings have a very recognisable and personal style. In all his paintings his use of masking fluid is one of the major sources of his works. His paintings are much stronger than the normal soft watercolour media due to using watercolour varnish.
