Desmond Turner
Desmond Turner was educated at the Methodist College, Queen's University and Stranmillis College, Belfast. His first teaching appointment was as specialist in art and music in the Belfast Boys' Model School, 1947-50. He also designed sets for the Grand Opera House, the Group Theatre, the Patricia Mulholland Irish Ballet and other companies. In tribute to Turner's teachings the late John Healy wrote in the Irish Times 'My wish is that the rising generation will have the blessings of a tutor like Desmond Turner who will take their eye and educate it to the wealth about them'.
